Travelers Canada has appointed Duane Sanders as Chief Executive Officer, beginning immediately.

Sanders, who joined the company in 2001, most recently acted as its Chief Operating Officer. He follows in the footsteps of Brigid Murphy, who is retiring after almost 20 years with the company. She will remain in the advisory position of Vice Chairman.

Heather Masterson, formerly president and CEO of Totten Insurance Group, will assume the role of COO beginning in mid-September.

Sanders previously held executive positions in such Travelers units as personal insurance, business insurance, claim and international. He hopes that this range of experience will prove beneficial to the brokers and consumers he now serves.

“I am excited to continue working with the dedicated and talented Travelers Canada team as we leverage our deep competitive advantages to serve brokers and customers across the country,” he said in a statement. “I am also looking forward to working with Heather, who brings substantial experience and strong relationships in the Canadian brokerage community.”

Travelers Canada, which acquired The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company in 2013, generated nearly $27 billion in revenues last year.
