A husband and wife may soon have more to answer for, according to police, suggesting they’re looking for more fraud cases than the million dollars the couple have already pleaded guilty to stealing from insurance companies.

The insurance companies they have already tapped are London Life Insurance Company, Great-West Life Assurance, Desjardin Financial Security Life Assurance Company and State Farm International Life Insurance Company Ltd, according to Toronto police.

Between 2006 and 2008, Alireza Shojaei, 45, purchased several life insurance policies totalling $3.525 million. His wife, Koukab Shojaei, 41, was listed as the beneficiary.

The wife later initiated a death-claim process in Iran after the supposed heart attack and death of her husband.
“The insurance companies could not confirm the death, but Mrs. Shojaei would then file civil lawsuits for a total of more than $10 million against the insurers.

They ultimately settled.

Although upon learning the husband was indeed alive and living California, Toronto police began the extradition process in 2010.
