Red River Mutual is once more holding its community sponsorship program this year.

The insurer’s “Spruce Up Your Story,” now on its third straight year, will see Red River Mutual provide up to $150,000 in total to fund the restoration of beloved community spaces in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Up to $25,000 will be each given to spaces “where people connect, laugh, earn, and share,” a release said.

Renovation and/or beautification projects nominated for the sponsorship program will be evaluated based on community use and significance, commitment to sustainability, aspects of volunteerism, and connections to a local Red River Mutual affiliated insurance brokerage.

“Spruce Up Your Story is another chance for Red River Mutual to honour and protect the places where stories are already being made,” said Red River Mutual president CEO Brian Esau. "Our goal is to be the insurance provider Canadians love talking with. To do this, Canadians have to feel like we're on the same page with them – that we're like a neighbour looking out for them."

In addition to the donations, winners of the program will have access to additional volunteer hours from their local brokerage and Red River Mutual staff members, who will be available to help when it is safe to do so.

Last year, 10 community spaces were chosen by Red River Mutual to win a total of $150,000. Previous winners of the contest include the Fort Qu'Appelle Library in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan; and the Manitou Community Arena in Manitou, Manitoba.
