Sun Life Financial has announced the appointment of Brennan Kennedy as senior vice president and chief actuary, effective October 4, 2025. Kennedy will succeed Kevin Morrissey, who will retire after a 37-year career with the company.
Kennedy currently serves as the company’s senior vice president of global asset liability management. He brings more than two decades of experience to the role.
Kennedy will oversee actuarial functions across the organization. His responsibilities will include leading valuation, reporting, product development and pricing activities in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards. He will also focus on applying actuarial best practices, advancing technology solutions and supporting the company’s broader strategic and client-focused initiatives.
Kennedy joined Sun Life in 1998 and has held a range of progressively senior roles in actuarial, finance, risk management and asset liability management.
“I'm confident his leadership will continue to drive success for Sun Life,” said Tom Murphy, executive vice-president and chief risk officer. “His deep expertise and forward-thinking approach will be instrumental in supporting our continued growth and strengthening our actuarial capabilities as the industry evolves.”
Morrissey began his career at Mutual Life of Canada in 1988, which later became Clarica before being acquired by Sun Life in 2002. He has served as Sun Life’s Chief Actuary since 2016.
In the coming months, Morrissey will support the transition process to ensure continuity.
“For the past two decades, Kevin has proved to be a key partner in helping Sun Life navigate various external economic challenges and maintain its resiliency,” said Murphy. “As the guiding light for our Global Actuarial Community, he has always led by example.”
