Life insurer Sun Life Financial has revealed that one of its senior leaders has been chosen to serve as Canada’s ambassador to France.

Sun Life Financial Quebec executive chair and senior vice-president Isabelle Hudon was chosen to serve the diplomatic position. She is the first female to act as the country’s ambassador to France.

“I’d like to congratulate Isabelle and wish her every success in her new role,” said Sun Life Financial president and CEO Dean Connor in a statement. “This is a special achievement in her career and the opportunity of a lifetime. We will greatly miss Isabelle’s impact on our clients and colleagues in Quebec and Canada, but I know she’ll do a sterling job as Canada’s Ambassador to France.”

Hudon joined Sun Life in August 2010 as president of the company’s Quebec arm – a role she held until 2015. She was then succeeded by Robert Dumas in 2015, who will now assume the role of executive chair. Hudon was also most recently the senior vice-president of client solutions.

“Isabelle is very deserving of this position and it’s not surprising that she’s making history as the first woman to be appointed to this prominent role,” said Sun Life Financial Canada president Kevin Dougherty. “Isabelle is a great talent and she’s done a tremendous amount for Sun Life Canada and Quebec. She’s leaving us with an impressive legacy, which I know the team will build upon. One of Isabelle’s greatest gifts to us has been how she’s contributed to the development of a strong and diverse culture within Sun Life, including the empowerment of women.”

“I will always be grateful to Sun Life for the opportunity to work for an organization that cares so much about its people, culture and clients,” commented Hudon. “I’d like to thank my team and all my Sun Life colleagues, especially those on the Canadian executive team, for believing in me and supporting me throughout the past seven years.”
