Many in the insurance brokerage business would say that it is important to form a close working relationship with clients – but saying a strong client relationship is all it takes to make a broker successful could seem cliché.
This does not deter Uzair Zamir – a sales manager with Billyard Insurance Group (BIG) - Etobicoke – from serving his clients to the best of his ability, because he is intensely passionate about helping people. He is also one of Insurance Business Canada’s Rising Stars 2022 winners, an award that recognizes young insurance professionals aged 35 and under for their achievements and contributions to the industry.
“I was always more interested in sales compared to the accounting career and my interest in sales was due to my extrovert personality,” Zamir told Insurance Business Canada. “I chose a career in the insurance industry for numerous reasons, new challenges every day, large social life and circle, and most importantly, the satisfaction of helping the community.”
Zamir’s motivation to help clients helped him stay motivated, until he pulled high sales numbers month to month. His start as a sales manager may have been hard going, but according to him, it was the joy of seeing a new hire becoming successful that was ultimately rewarding.
“I believe everyone in the industry is working hard to make their mark, but a few things which make me a niche is building a unique relationship with the clients, developing a personal style and understanding their needs,” commented Zamir. “In addition to this, I focus more on educating the client on what they are paying for rather than how much they are paying.”
But Zamir is not the type to rest on his laurels, as he has already set himself new goals to achieve.
“My ultimate goal for the next few years is to grow my team and continue leading them successfully,” he says. “I’m also focused on advancing into the commercial department simultaneously and on continuing to grow within the industry.”
