The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario wrapped up the convention with its prestigious Awards of Excellence Gala, recognizing prominent insurance brokers and brokerages throughout the province.

“We are very excited to recognize and award these outstanding brokers for not only the great service they offer their clients but for the profound impact they make in their communities,” said IBAO CEO Randy Carroll. “This group of people are an example of the great work being done in our industry across the province.”

The highly prized Broker of the Year title went to Linda Papadopoulos, of Pearson Dunn Insurance Inc, in Stony Creek.

A broker for more than 29 years, Linda is a volunteer career ambassador for the Insurance Institute. She also sits on a committee which gathers fundraising support for Good Shepard Centre for Hamilton, and is a major supporter and fundraiser for the Women of the Year Award with Hamilton’s YMCA.

The recipients were selected for their community and professional contributions, examples of the great impact insurance brokers have on their communities. (continued.)

Young Broker of the Year went to Scott Sleightholm of Smith Petrie Carr & Scott Insurance Brokers in Ottawa. Sleightholm is the Director of the Ottawa Insurance Brokers Association, and is involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa. He also serves as an ‘insurance ambassador’ in his community.

The 93rd annual convention, held at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, threw open its doors to the some 12,000 broker members from across the province last week, with the awards ceremony highlighting the achievements and initiatives of a few of its most outstanding members.

Affiliate of the Year was taken by the Insurance Brokers Association of Durham Region.

The association hosts a number of ‘broker awareness days’ in their community by donating the association’s bipper branded magenta blankets to members of their community for what they call their ‘warm and fuzzy’ moments. This all-female directorate takes pride in always looking for ways to give back to the community.

Brokerage of the Year honours were given to W.B. White Insurance in Oshawa. A family owned brokerage for more than 80 years, W.B. White Insurance is most proud of their community involvement. They raise food and toys every year for Simcoe Settlement Hall and work closely with the Humane Society. (continued.)
