The skyline of downtown Winnipeg gleamed a little brighter as The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company unveiled its state-of-the-art national headquarters nestled within True North Square.

The 21-storey headquarters will host the mutual insurer’s 1,300 local employees.

Jeff Goy, president and CEO of Wawanesa, expressed pride in this transition: “This building proudly symbolizes Wawanesa’s transformation from small-town roots in rural Manitoba to a leading Canadian mutual insurance company.”

At the same time, Wawanesa has announced a $500,000 contribution to downtown revitalization efforts, including support for environmental initiatives and community safety partnerships.

Goy emphasized, “Wawanesa is proud to partner with our community. Our operations span the country, but Manitoba is our home and always will be.”

What’s in Wawanesa’s new headquarters?

Developed by True North Real Estate Development and designed by Architecture49, the new headquarters, spanning 360,000 square feet, was built to accommodate the company’s growing workforce.

The new headquarters is designed with modern amenities and flexible workspaces to accommodate diverse work styles and foster collaboration and connectivity among employees.

The facility includes dedicated spaces for large meetings and town halls, providing panoramic views of the prairie skyline, areas for training and development, an on-site café, and a health and wellness floor. A childcare centre is also slated to open soon.

The building is on track to achieve LEED Gold certification and WELL certification at the gold level by year-end, according to a news release.
