On Friday Insurance Business took a look back at what made headlines from January to April. Today, we look at the months of May, June, July and August – the summer of floods.

Before we dive into the deep waters of flood insurance, May included an NHL player who wanted his life insurance policy annulled and a $1.2-million refund for the premiums he had already paid.

June saw the worst flooding in Alberta’s history, closing brokerages and forcing thousands of residents to be evacuated as recovery efforts continued into the month of July.

July began with the tragic Lac Megantic rail disaster; but also revealed that the director of Spider-Man, Lady Gaga and Timbaland all had a bone to pick with their insurance providers.

Readers shared and tweeted the August story of a man who filed a claim for losing his cell phone inside a cow.
