Sovereign Insurance, a member of The Co-operators Group, has appointed Colette Taylor as chief operating officer.

Taylor will be responsible for all business and executional operations for the company, and will help grow the business to support more Canadian businesses. She will report to The Co-operators Group EVP Steve Phillips, who was the previous COO of Sovereign.

With over 20 years of P&C insurance industry experience, Taylor has expertise in the mid-market commercial and specialty space. She has served in executive and senior leader roles, having led front-line commercial underwriting teams and managed strategic broker relationships. Taylor also previously spent some time as a broker, interfacing with commercial end clients.

Taylor has been a member of Sovereign since 2018; she is credited with streamlining the company’s distribution function and establishing a more collaborative and improved experience for Sovereign’s distribution partners, the company said.

"I am excited that Colette is taking on this expanded role," commented Phillips. "I am confident in her leadership approach which is purpose-driven and focused on high performance."

Phillips will maintain executive oversight of Sovereign, a release said, but will be stepping back from the day-to-day operations and execution to “focus on a broadened portfolio,” a release said.
