Specialist managing general agent (MGA) Lions Gate Underwriting (LGU) has launched a new environmental insurance product as part of its coverage offering in Canada.

A release said that the program will be underwritten by Great American Insurance Group, which back several LGU products. The program will be managed by Rod Spurrell, the managing director of LGU’s Toronto branch.

Spurrell was appointed to the role of managing director last October. He was previously the vice-president of underwriting at Markel Canada, specializing in environmental impairment liability, excess & umbrella, architects and engineers E&O and medical malpractice.

LGU’s environmental insurance program will focus on contracting services and the pollution conditions resulting from them. The wording includes errors and omissions arising from associated professional services, which normally requires a separate policy. The coverage can be offered on either an occurrence or claims made basis.

A company release said that this environmental program will be available for premises and operations across Canada and the US.

“We are pleased to be offering this innovative product in Canada, which we have designed with several features new to the Canadian market,” commented Spurrell. “Our growing team at Lions Gate is committed to delivering best-in-class underwriting service, with a range of policies that will meet the needs of a broad range of clients. I look forward to rolling this product out to Canadian businesses and further growing our Lions Gate offering.”
