Arch Insurance Canada has promoted Jean-Pierre Galipeault (pictured above) as president. He assumes the role alongside his current position as regional chief executive.
Galipeault has been with Arch since 2013, holding a number of senior underwriting positions until he was named chief regional executive in 2019. Prior to joining Arch Canada, he worked as a broker focused on specialty programs and warranty solutions at Insurance Insight in Ontario. He has an Honours BSocSc from the University of Ottawa. He is also a Chartered Insurance Professional with the Insurance Institute of Canada.
Following his latest appointment, Galipeault will be responsible for leading the entire Arch Insurance Canada organization, reporting to Mark Lange, chief strategy officer at Arch Insurance Group.
"His strong product knowledge, diligent underwriting management and excellent distribution relationships have meaningfully helped AICL grow the top and bottom line during these favourable market conditions,” said Lange.
News of Galipeault’s appointment comes after Brian First was appointed president of Arch Insurance North America after over four years as chief underwriting office (CUO) of programs, property and specialty. The appointment, which was announced last month, has given First executive oversight over Arch’s North American business units and certain operations teams.
First joined Arch in 2014 and continues to report to Matt Shulman, CEO of Arch Insurance North America.
“Brian First has been instrumental to our success over the past several years, and we’re all very excited to have him take on these expanded responsibilities,” said Shulman. “In addition to being an incredibly insightful underwriter, Brian is a well-rounded and respected leader who will help steer our organization as we pursue our ambitious goals.”
In October, Arch Insurance also bolstered its cargo and logistics team with the appointment of 20-year insurance market veteran David Stallard as senior cargo underwriter.
