With less than two weeks to go to participate in the upcoming Elite Top 30 Brokers list, one of last year’s elite brokers is quick to point out that finding success isn’t a solo effort, but the result of a strong supporting staff.

“The elite broker needs the best support staff available to earn this title,” says Mike O’Grady, the owner of O’Grady & Associates Insurance Services Inc., in Simcoe, Ont. “But you must lead by example; years of experience and an aptitude for the business will assist in reaching that goal.”

O’Grady is one of more than 60 top brokers who have taken the Elite Top 30 Brokers survey, which can be found on the website home page. As a veteran broker with more than 36 years of experience in the industry, O’Grady offers a few suggestions as to what it takes to become a top broker.

“What does it take? Someone who truly enjoys and knows what it takes to be an advocate for the client,” he told Insurance Business. “As well, knowing the fine print of the policies to make sure the policies and coverages respond the way they are intended to – and having employees who are all engaged with the same philosophy.”

The survey closes at midnight on July 27. Only those surveys that have been completely filled out and have been vetted and confirmed will be eligible for the Top 30 Elite Brokers list, to be published in the September issue of Insurance Business magazine.
