The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) has announced the appointment of Jim Murphy as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer. Murphy joins the association from the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP), where he has served as President and CEO since 2007.

“I am delighted to be joining the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario,” Murphy said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with the board and our engaged membership to address the pressing issues facing the insurance industry.”

This appointment reflects IBAO’s first official successor to Randy Carroll, who “moved on” from the position suddenly last September.  Colin Simpson, CEO of Independent Brokers Resources Inc. (IBRI), had been acting as interim CEO since Carroll’s departure.

The IBAO hopes to capitalize upon Murphy’s years in advocacy and research, which includes such roles as the Senior Director of Government Relations and Communications for CAAMP and Director of Government Relations for the Greater Toronto Home Builders’ Association (BILD).

“Our members have asked us to focus on three strategic pillars—advocacy, education, and sustainability of the channel,” said Michael Brattman, President of IBAO. “We are very pleased to have Jim join the IBAO team.”

The IBAO represents 12,000 P&C insurance brokers throughout the province of Ontario
