Gore Mutual Insurance Company has achieved CSIO’s API Security Standards Certification by adopting CSIO’s Application Programming Interface (API) Security Standards.

Software vendors and insurers that follow the industry authentication and authorization guidelines outlined in the API Security Standards enable broker partners to streamline authentication and authorization processes.

The standards ensure that customer information exchanged through an API endpoint between a Broker Management System (BMS) and Gore Mutual’s systems is protected by security measures.

CSIO’s INNOTECH Advisory Committee and its API Security Standards Working Group developed the API Security Standards. The committee, made up of industry experts, reviews and updates the standards annually to align with current security best practices.

James Warburton, chief information officer at Gore Mutual and CSIO board member, said the certification reinforces trust with broker partners and customers by demonstrating a commitment to data security. He emphasized the importance of aligning security practices with evolving standards as the company continues to innovate and improve data exchange.

Gore Mutual’s move comes amid its pending merger with Beneva, Canada’s largest mutual insurer. The two companies said they intend to merge their operations by 2026, which will combine the companies’ operations under the Beneva brand.

“We saw an opportunity to create a compelling alternative in the market by building a high-performing mutual that could compete with the industry’s largest players,” commented Andy Taylor, COE of Gore Mutual, who has said that the merger decision was driven by the company’s “Next Horizon” strategy.

“[W]e launched our Next Horizon strategy with a clear goal: to start from a position of strength and embrace change before it’s necessary,” Taylor said in an interview with Insurance Business last January.
