Wawanesa Insurance is the first CSIO member to achieve JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Application Programming Interface (API) Standards Certification for Billing, according to the Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO).
The certification confirms Wawanesa’s implementation of these Standards for Billing use cases, enabling real-time data exchange with brokers.
CSIO’s INNOTECH API Implementation Working Groups developed the JSON API Standards to improve communication between insurer systems and broker management systems (BMS). These Standards allow brokers to access information such as payment status and billing schedules directly within their BMS, streamlining processes and enhancing client support.
With Wawanesa’s implementation of JSON API Standards for Billing APIs, brokers will be able to receive real-time billing data once BMS vendors integrate the technology into their systems.
“As one of Canada’s leading mutual P&C insurers, we take pride in leading innovation and ensuring success for our broker community,” said Cam Muckosky (pictured above), vice president, Digital Delivery at Wawanesa Insurance. “The JSON API Standards Certification reaffirms our commitment to leading the way with APIs that empower brokers to provide exceptional service to our members.”
Meanwhile, CSIO President & CEO Catherine Smola acknowledged the significance of Wawanesa’s certification.
“Wawanesa becoming the first member certified in JSON API Standards further strengthens their position as a leader that consistently enhances their value through Data Standards,” said Smola. “Their achievement sets a high standard for the industry and builds broker confidence through advanced data capabilities.”
Several other CSIO members are working towards JSON API Standards Certification, the organization said.
Last January, Wawanesa Insurance also obtained CSIO’s eDocs certification. The certification allows brokers to receive clearly labeled eDocs within their broker management systems (BMS) without needing to open each document to identify its content, saving their time while improving efficiency.
