Aviva rolls out new app-based insurance offering

Insurer Aviva has a new proposition for motorists aged 17 to 29 called “Quotemehappy Connect”.

The Quotemehappy Connect car insurance app features driver ratings and behaviours which form the basis of whether an insured gets discounted renewal premiums or personalised driving advice. Gold-rated drivers, for instance, stand to get a 30% reduction in their insurance cost.

“Traditional blackbox telematics insurance policies have become an established way for young drivers to monitor their driving and reduce premiums,” said Aviva’s connected motor head Matthew Washer. “However, technology has moved on and the new app allows drivers to monitor their driving without the need for a blackbox to be professionally fitted to their car.”

Instead of using blackboxes, Quotemehappy Connect combines app-based technology with a small windscreen-mounted device that is then paired with the driver’s mobile phone.

“Many young people want to demonstrate they are safe drivers, and the app allows them to do this in a simple and easy way by working in the background every time they drive,” added Washer.

“Quotemehappy Connect allows young drivers to stay safe on the roads while helping to keep their insurance costs low with a price that is individual to them, rather than ‘people like them’. By providing weekly ratings and regular personalised advice on their driving, young drivers can understand which areas of their driving they can improve.”

Developed by Aviva in partnership with telematics specialist IMS, Quotemehappy Connect covers vehicles that are 20 years or younger and worth £70,000 or less. The new offering is an addition to the brand’s motor insurance range that includes Quotemehappy Essentials and Quotemehappy Plus.

“For this new partnership, we are making a decisive break from blackboxes – generally used by young drivers – to a smartphone app connected to the IMS Wedge Bluetooth device,” declared IMS chief executive Paul Stacy.

“We’re excited to be working with Aviva at a time when the advantages of connected insurance for all drivers are becoming ever more apparent, and look forward to working with Aviva in the coming months.”
