Comparethemarket.com parent forays into short-term car coverage

BGL Group, the name behind comparison giant comparethemarket.com, has now entered the world of short-term motor insurance.

Called “Jaunt,” BGL’s new brand will provide car, van, and motorhome insurance from a minimum of one hour to as much as 30 days – catering to motorists looking to secure short-term coverage for a borrowed vehicle without impacting the annual motor policy nor the no-claims discount in the event of a claim.

According to Mark Townsend, managing director of motor and home portfolio at BGL, the new “fun, engaging” brand enables drivers to share the use of family and friends’ cars knowing they can easily take out a short-term comprehensive policy online.

“Customers have told us they don’t want to pay to run and insure a car only to have it sitting unused for weeks at a time,” said Townsend. “Many people are now turning to the sharing model, ensuring they have the use of a car only when they want or need to. It’s better for the environment, better on people’s pockets – and totally flexible.

“Taking out a short-term policy through Jaunt will allow customers to take off spontaneously on a weekend break or use a parent’s car while visiting for the weekend, as well as being useful in other scenarios such as moving home, transporting furniture, collecting a new car, sharing long drives, or travelling to student accommodation.”

Underwritten by Aviva, the comprehensive policy is offered in partnership with Dayinsure.
