The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) will have a new chief executive come May 14.

After one and a half decades at MIB, Ashton West OBE is retiring as CEO and executive director – handing over the reins to Dominic Clayden for both positions, while the two work together in the months ahead to ensure an orderly transition. The latter has served as non-executive director on MIB’s board.

“It has been a privilege to play a part in the development of MIB to the organisation it is today,” said West, who wishes Clayden and the MIB team success. “Working in partnership with insurers, government, police, and DVLA, MIB has made a significant impact to reducing levels of uninsured driving on Britain’s roads, and I am proud of what has been achieved by everyone here.”

A qualified solicitor, MIB’s incoming chief executive has held legal positions at BKJ Lewis and Potter Butler & Lyons. Clayden – who is determined to build on MIB’s achievements – also worked at the likes of Aviva and QBE Insurance, where he was claims director and group chief claims officer, respectively.

“Succession planning is a key area for the board, and I’m delighted to have someone of Dominic’s calibre joining MIB to continue to drive our strategy,” commented MIB chair Steve Maddock. “I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Ashton for the contribution that he has made over the last 15 years. Under his outstanding leadership, MIB has achieved an incredible amount to tackle uninsured driving on Britain’s roads.”
