The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has postponed events originally scheduled this week, in response to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.

“As things stand, we will not be holding the following events: our Golf Day in Leeds on September 13, and the London and South East Tour of the Regions event at Lloyd’s of London on September 15,” noted BIBA, which is “deeply saddened” by last week’s news.

New dates for the two events have not been set. Meanwhile, it has been announced that the state funeral will take place on September 19, which will be a national bank holiday.

“This will allow individuals, businesses, and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning,” stated the government.

“This bank holiday will operate in the same way as other bank holidays, and there is no statutory entitlement to time off. Employers may include bank holidays as part of a worker’s leave entitlement.”

Following the news last Thursday, there has been an outpouring of messages from insurance companies and trade bodies in memory of the late monarch. These include the statement by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

“On behalf of the insurance and long-term savings industry, we send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of HM The Queen,” said ABI director general Hannah Gurga.

“At this very sad time, we pay tribute to the service and dedication that Her Majesty has given to the United Kingdom throughout her life and reign.”
