Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has announced that  Helena Evans, head of specialist services at Criterion Adjusters and Graham Stait, head of claims operations at Allianz, have joined the board of the Society of Claims Professionals (SOCP).

Launched by CII in January 2019, the SCOP is a community for insurance claims professionals with the CII which aims to raise the levels of professional knowledge and technical competence. The SCOP also exists to assist members in their personal career development at all levels of experience, a release said, through market-relevant continuing professional development, a release said.

According to CII, the new board appointments will help SCOP focus on the crucial issue of trust and reputation in the claims sector.

“As a community of professionals, the SOCP provides its members with high quality insight, learning and content,” commented Evans on her appointment. “I am particularly delighted to have been asked to become involved with the SOCP. Having been a loss adjuster since 1991, I am passionate about the claims profession and showcasing not only the technical side, but the human touch, which is key to the service we provide, to help attract new talent and improve public trust in insurance.”

“I’m really pleased with how members have engaged with the SOCP,” added Stait. “The breadth and quality of the content made available to our members continues to increase, helping claims professionals to improve their skills and leading to better customer outcomes. I’m personally looking forward to building on the strong relationships with local institutes and ensuring our members continue to have access to relevant resources and first-rate thought leadership.”

“The society boards are dedicated and passionate about serving and supporting as many members in the claims sector as possible,” said CII programme development and partnerships manager Tim Groves. “These new appointments will enable us to better understand this wider membership as they both bring new and fresh ideas to how we serve.”

The appointments come after the CII announced that it was impacted by a cybersecurity incident, wherein about 20% of its customer records were accessed. In response to the incident, the body appointed a new chief digital and information officer, Mathew Mallett.
