ThingCo restructures management team after investment

Telematics insurtech ThingCo has reorganised its management team. This follows a £2 million investment by BHL (UK) Holdings Limited earlier this year.

James Bashford (pictured top, left) has been appointed director of customer relations and business development, Alex Brockman (pictured top, centre) as director of operations, and Matt Masters (pictured top, right) as director of technology.

The appointments aim to streamline processes, extend support to existing clients, and develop infrastructure to allow rapid scaling.

CEO Mike Brockman continues to lead the executive team alongside Martin Williams, chief operating officer, and Jon Valentine, chief technology officer. Brockman said the new team structure enables the company to accelerate product development and expand market reach, while delivering benefits to insurer partners, including reductions in loss ratios.

wefox appoints group CFO

wefox Holding AG has named Dieter Bartl (pictured immediately above) as its new group chief financial officer, effective October 1, 2025. He will also join the group’s executive committee, subject to regulatory approvals. Bartl brings over 25 years of leadership experience across insurance, banking, and technology sectors.

He previously held senior finance and business development positions at Zurich Insurance and Prudential plc, and served as group CEO of ASSEPRO, a broker in the SME insurance market. Most recently, he has provided advisory services to financial institutions and private equity firms.

At wefox, Bartl will support the company’s focus on smart insurance distribution services and its Managing General Agent (MGA) business, building on the group’s presence in Austria, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. He succeeds Alexander Bayliss, who has left the company to pursue other career opportunities.

Joachim Müller, group CEO of wefox, said that Bartl’s industry knowledge and experience in finance, business development, and distribution management will be instrumental in advancing the group’s ambitions for profitable growth and executing its new strategy.

Specialty MGA appoints senior underwriter

Specialty MGA, a managing general agent providing additional capacity for specialty lines of business, has appointed Nick Conway (pictured) as senior underwriter for medical malpractice. Conway has over 25 years of experience in underwriting and broking, having worked with Marsh, Themis Group, and BMS Global Healthcare.

Based in the London office, Conway will assess and manage risk across the global medical portfolio, including hospitals, clinics, medical practitioners, non-surgical, and allied health providers.

“I am excited to have joined Specialty MGA at this ambitious time for the business where there are significant opportunities to expand, leveraging the global expertise of MNK Group,” said Conway. “The international network and level of knowledge at Specialty MGA makes it well-placed for rapid growth, in not only healthcare but all business lines across its international portfolio, providing additional capacity to global markets.”

According to Manoj Kumar, chairman of MNK Group, Conway’s combined underwriting and broking experience provides a substantial network for delivering tailored solutions in the evolving healthcare insurance market.

Specialty MGA operates in the UK, Italy, US, and Morocco and works closely with the Lloyd’s market to offer brokers access to its underwriting team.

PoloWorks names head of PCIS syndicate business operations

PoloWorks has appointed Becky Swann as head of PCIS Syndicate Business Operations. Swann joins from Arch Insurance, where she spent nearly six years, most recently as head of underwriting operations. She previously managed the integration of Barbican after its acquisition by Arch in 2019, having been part of Barbican’s operations management team.

Her role at PoloWorks includes responsibility for the design, delivery, and management of PCIS services to syndicates, working closely with Polo Managing Agency to support syndicate clients across the operational lifecycle.
