Belgium-based Lloyd’s Insurance Company S.A. (LIC) – better known as Lloyd’s Europe after being previously called Lloyd’s Brussels – will have a new chief executive.

In a release, London-headquartered insurance marketplace Lloyd’s said Europe CEO Sonja Rottiers will be stepping down on June 01 during LIC’s general assembly. She will be succeeded by Amélie Breitburd, whose more than 25 years of international insurance markets experience includes time spent at AXA and Allianz.

Additionally, Rottiers’ departure coincides with the end of the three-year mandates of Lloyd’s Europe non-executive chair Michel Flamée and board member Christian Noyer.

“I am proud of the progress Lloyd’s Europe has made during my tenure, and of the team we have built,” stated the outgoing chief, who has been at the helm of the Brexit subsidiary since February 2019.

“It has been a privilege to lead this work, however now is the right time to close this chapter as LIC transitions out of ‘set-up’ phase into full implementation. I look forward to seeing Lloyd’s continued success in the European market.”

Rottiers also expressed gratitude for everyone who took part in her Lloyd’s Europe journey.

Commenting on the development, Lloyd’s market development head Caroline Dunn said: “I would like to thank Sonja for her service to Lloyd’s Corporation and the wider market, and for her significant contribution to ensuring the ongoing success of Lloyd’s in Europe.

“I would also like to thank Michel and Christian for their valuable support during the set-up phase.”

New LIC board members, meanwhile, will be announced in due course.
