Motor insurer Markerstudy has been ranked as the fourth best big company to work for in the UK, defeating larger brands in the finance sector including insurance giants.

For the first time, Markerstudy made it to the top 30 category of The Sunday Times’ annual list of best big companies to work for in the UK. Despite being a new name on the list, the insurer has already placed fourth as it received an “extraordinary status” and the highest rating of “three stars” during the awards ceremony on February 23.

The insurer, which turns 16 this year, also ranked first for employee wellbeing and second for “giving something back” to its staff.

Surveys conducted as part of the awards found that 82% of Markerstudy employees believe they can contribute to the success of the organisation. Also, 82% of the staff said they go out of their way to help each other and have fun together.

“This is a defining moment for us. To be named a ‘Best Company to Work For’ in the UK is a highlight of our business history and there have been many, many highs,” said Gary Humphrey, group underwriting director.

“We have always strived to create something that our employees can be proud of,” he added. “We are dedicated to combining a successful business model with happy staff.”

Two other insurance firms were included in the top 30 category. Motor insurer Admiral climbed from the sixth spot to second place while global insurance giant AXA retained its 16th rank.
