It was appointments galore for broking giant Marsh last December, in preparation for the completion of the Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group (JLT) takeover by its parent firm Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC). Now a couple of further announcements have been revealed.

Joe Grogan (pictured), who has been with Marsh for 28 years and was named Marsh Ireland chairman last September, has been appointed as executive chair. JLT veteran Patrick Howett, meanwhile, has been tapped to serve as Marsh Ireland chief executive.

Howett came onboard JLT in 1983 and has held the position of managing director for Ireland since 1995.

“This is an exciting time for the teams at both Marsh and JLT,” commented Howett, who will be reporting to Marsh UK & Ireland CEO Chris Lay. “The combined organisation will lead the market in providing exceptional client service and risk and insurance expertise.”

Grogan, for his part, cited Marsh’s commitment to providing high-quality and seamless service.

“By strengthening our Irish operations, we will ensure we have the resources and talents required to support our clients as they navigate an increasingly complex risk landscape,” he said. “I look forward to working with Pat and the highly-regarded JLT team.”

His and Howett’s appointments are effective upon closing of the MMC-JLT deal. Both executives will be based in Dublin.
