For the fourth year in a row, MCE Insurance has reported a zero median gender pay gap for 2020.

The motorbike insurance specialist has been reporting a zero median gender pay gap since 2017. According to ONS figures from 2019, the average gender pay gap within the insurance industry was 23.5% and the national average was 17.4%.

In terms of mean gender pay gap, the insurer posted 11% for 2020 – a 7% improvement from its results in 2019, and a 42% improvement since 2017. By comparison, ONS figures put the insurance industry average for mean gender pay gap at 21.6%, and a national average of 16.3%.

“I am very proud to be able to announce for the fourth year running that MCE Insurance has a zero median gender pay gap,” commented MCE Insurance CEO Julian Edwards on the results.

“It is so important all of our employees know that, regardless of their gender, or any other characteristic, that they have the opportunity to pursue a long and fulfilling career with us and be paid fairly for that. These results provide the evidence that this is the case.”

Aside from detailing its progress on closing the pay gap, MCE Insurance also reported that it has made strides in reaching gender parity in senior roles. The company said that the percentage of women in senior roles in the upper pay quartile has increased by 30% over the last four years – with 46% of senior roles at the organisation held by women.

Just last week, MCE Insurance named Rachel Bennett its newest department manager of defendant claims, making her the latest female hire for a management role within the company.
