Helen Pickford, UK chief financial officer of Zurich, has reacted to her appointment as the new chair of the practitioner panel of Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Committee (PRA).

Pickford replaced former chair Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Standard Life Aberdeen, on November 30. The practitioner panel membership is comprised of industry professionals nominated by trade associations and market participants, with the composition being broadly representative of how the PRA allocates its resources. Members are independent of the firm, trade association, or market participant they are drawn from.

“I am delighted to take up the role of chair of the PRA practitioner panel,” said Pickford. “It’s an important forum for ensuring ongoing engagement between the industry and its regulator and it’s an honour to be nominated by my fellow panel members to take the lead going forward”.

The current deputy chair of the panel is Victoria Stubbs, chief risk officer of The Cambridge Building Society. Panel members include James Bardrick, chief executive officer of Citigroup Global Markets; Debbie Crosbie, CEO of TSB Bank; Francesca McDonagh, chief executive of Bank of Ireland Group; Tim Harris, CFO of Direct Line Group; Richard Ward, executive chairman of Ardonagh Specialty; Ashraf Piranie, group finance and operations director of West Bromwich Building Society; Martin Gilbert, vice chairman of Standard Life Aberdeen & chairman of Aberdeen Standard Investments; William Smith, managing director, head of European and Middle East operations of BMO Financial Group; Mary-Anne Daly, CEO of Cazenove Capital; Robert Kelly, CEO of the Association of British Credit Unions; Mark Rhys, banking partner at Deloitte; and Martin Fisher, regulatory and legal officer for Northern Ireland at the Irish League of Credit Unions.
