W Denis Group has established a specialist division aimed at insuring data centres and their associated power generation infrastructure.
The new offering is designed to provide end-to-end insurance solutions, supported by global capacity running into the billions in sterling, euro, or dollar terms.
The division is structured to offer dedicated cover for both the physical assets of data centres, such as buildings, plant and technology, and the on-site electricity generation systems that support their operations.
Capacity is available through direct insurance and facultative reinsurance arrangements with international carriers. The solution is applicable to single-site, multi-site, and portfolio-based risk programmes across various geographic regions.
The product scope spans all phases of the data centre lifecycle. Coverage includes construction all risks with delay in start-up, operational property damage and equipment breakdown, business interruption with triggers linked to utility failure, and insurance for on-site power generation assets.
Other areas covered include third-party legal liability, legal indemnities such as planning or easement issues, cyber risk, data breach, and professional liability exposures.
W Denis Group noted that clients also have access to claims support and advocacy services, in addition to risk management advisory throughout the design, build and operational stages of a data centre. This includes engineering risk assessments, loss prevention measures, and resilience planning.
Mark Dutton (pictured above), chief commercial Officer at W Denis, said the growing reliance on data infrastructure underscores the need for comprehensive cover.
“Our new division recognises that effective insurance must cover both the data and the power that keeps it alive. Our clients benefit from deep technical expertise, strong capacity, and joined-up coverage from build to operation,” Dutton said.
W Denis’ last major expansion was in 2023, when the international broker secured planning consent to revamp its headquarters at 8 St. Paul’s Street in Leeds City Centre.
