Niche construction and commercial lines managing general agent Thames Underwriting has opened its doors in London.

The new Leadenhall Street office will be manned by construction underwriters Stuart Daffin (pictured, above) and Paul Savva (pictured, below), who moved from HSB Engineering and Pen Underwriting, respectively. Daffin’s credentials also include time spent at AXA and Allianz, while Savva brings 13 years of experience from his previous firm.

“Since establishing the business almost 10 years ago, we’ve focused on a plan of sustainable and profitable growth around our core areas of niche underwriting expertise,” said director Keith Syrett. “Now, as a result of this focus and with the support of our growing network of broking partners, we have taken the important next step in our development.

“We believe having an underwriting presence in EC3 is a significant stage in our growth journey.”

Syrett added: “I’m pleased to be bringing in established and respected underwriters of Stuart and Paul’s reputation. They will be integral to the success and future development of the London office, and I am looking forward to working with them.”

Meanwhile, Thames Underwriting’s existing Leigh on Sea headquarters is also joined by a duo of recruits. Underwriters James Skeggs and Don Black have become part of the commercial combined/property team. Black, a four-decade industry veteran, made the switch from MS Amlin while Towergate alumnus Skeggs was most recently with Coast Underwriting.
