Demonstrating a commitment to growing its presence in the marine insurance market, Tokio Marine HCC has appointed industry veteran Darren Carr (pictured) as its new head of marine liability. Carr is expected to support Tokio Marine in expanding its product portfolio in marine trades, marine property, protection and indemnity (P&I) re-insurance, and marine and energy liability.

Carr has over 16 years of experience in marine liability. Starting his career at Hiscox, he joined Tokio Marine from AXIS Capital where he worked as head of marine and led various underwriting teams.

Now he will report to Simon Button, chief underwriting officer at Tokio Marine’s London market division. Button pointed to Carr’s extensive experience as giving Tokio Marine an edge over competitors.

“I am delighted that Darren has joined the marine team,” said Button. “His experience and knowledge of the industry will help Tokio Marine HCC advance and invest in the marine liability space.”

“The London Market division continues to grow, withstanding challenging market place conditions,” said Barry Cook, chief executive officer of Tokio Marine HCC – International Group.

“Recruiting reputable and experienced hires such as Darren highlights the steps that Tokio Marine HCC is taking to continually improve its offering to the broker and client community that is at the heart of our business.”
