Adam Arnold has been in the insurance business his entire career, both on the agency side and the carrier side. He recently joined Ashley General Agency in Conroe, Texas as an underwriter. He began his insurance career in the mail room at Houston-based Myron Steves when he was 21, working his way through policy services, marketing and underwriting before dipping his toe in the carrier business at Houston International Insurance Group.
 
What makes Ashley General stand out from the competition?
 
I think it is the environment. They really value and appreciate employees. I came to Ashley because everywhere I went people were talking about them. They are known as a growth-oriented agency, and I think there is a lot of room for growth.
 
What is the best career advice you’ve every gotten?
 
Ask questions. No question is bad question. Talk to the people you work with. Talk to your clients. Learn from everyone.
 
What do you see as an ideal insurance professional?
 
Insurance professionals come in all shapes and sizes. This is a relationship business for sure. The ability to form relationships is the key to success.
 
What advice would you give someone just entering the business?
 
Keep an open mind. Ask questions. It is really good to have a mentor, someone to talk to when things come up. I have had several great mentors and they have made a big difference to me.
 
What should clients know about you?
 
For me, it is all about customer service. I always hang my hat on that. I’m a problem solver. People come to an insurance agency because they have a problem. They need us to fix something, and that is what we do. They bring us hard to place coverage, and we find a way. We find a way to put a program together that meets their needs.
