Acrisure and its founder/CEO, Greg Williams, have been named Michigan’s “Dealmaker of the Year” during the 2015 MiBiz M&A Deals and Dealmakers of the Year Awards.

The company won the distinction for its aggressive acquisition strategy, allowing it to close an average of one insurance agency acquisition per week in 2015.

Joel Brandt, senior commercial lender at Macatawa Bank Corp. and co-chair for the event’s judging panel, said he was impressed with Acrisure’s commitment.

“If you’re doing that many deals in a year, that’s really, really impressive in just the pace and the ability to pull it off,” he said.

The judges said they were impressed, not just with Acrisure’s ability to close deals, but also in the way the company structured its deals. In each deal, Acrisure retained the management team, staff, and brand name of the acquired insurance agencies.

“A lot of deals require expense reductions and layoffs. To make the deal make sense in the long run, they found M&A requires that,” Brandt said. “At Acrisure, it’s a strategy that’s found a way to avoid business disruption. It fits nicely with the West Michigan culture.”

Acrisure was co-founded by Williams in 2005. Since then, it has become one of the top 15 insurance brokers in the country, with offices in 24 states.
