Cover Whale has snapped up AIG veteran Bill Fahrner to serve as chief underwriting officer at the commercial auto insurtech.

Fahrner has nearly three decades of industry experience, 24 years of which were spent with AIG. He most recently held the position of chief insurance officer at Joyn Insurance.

At Cover Whale, the new CUO will leverage his track record of combining technology-enhanced risk analysis with traditional underwriting principles.

“As one of the industry’s most robust managing general agents, Cover Whale’s commitment to evolving the commercial auto insurance underwriting landscape using technology is truly commendable,” Fahrner commented in a release.

“This is an exciting time to join the company, and I look forward to taking our already leading trucking insurance platform and underwriting process to the next level.”

Meanwhile, Cover Whale chief operating officer and chief technology officer Darryl Siry had this to say: “We’re at a stage of rapid expansion which bears testament to our successful approach to commercial trucking insurance, and we’ve created a significant lead in the industry in terms of the digital provision of coverage.

“As we scale, Bill’s expertise and seasoned leadership bolster our ongoing ability to underwrite and price risks fairly and accurately, while continuing to turn in industry-leading loss ratios.”

Fahrner’s arrival comes hot on the heels of Siry’s own appointment, which was announced last November.

At the time, the COO and CTO said: “Cover Whale is the perfect example of how technology can drive insurance results and create value for customers and agents.

Their unique approach to trucking insurance – leveraging cameras, telematics, AI (artificial intelligence), and a streamlined online experience – results in an industry-leading loss ratio and efficient underwriting process.”
