The same month he was working to open his independent agency, third-generation insurance professional Brandon Shreves of Mobile, Alabama hit the road for the MDA Muscle Walk of South Alabama Gulf Coast to raise funds for muscular dystrophy research and treatment.

It’s not an unusual event for Shreves, who often participates in charitable outreach through his business. Mobile-based Shreves Insurance is even partnered with Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that fights poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing. By collecting flip flops at his new office from July 1 to October 31, Shreves hopes to garner a sense of community and help improve impoverished communities.

“The vision of Soles4Souls is to eradicate extreme poverty by 2050, and we can all help them achieve this through donations,” said Shreves.

He doesn’t just talk the talk, either. Shreves has previously hosted a few different donation drives for the group, and last year traveled with his wife, Angie, to deliver roughly 3,500 pairs of shoes to the Soles4Souls headquarters in Nashville – a journey of 1,000 miles from home.

Shreves also recently participated in the Blue Star Salute 5K Run/Walk for Alabama’s fallen military personnel since 9/11.

At the same time, he was getting ready to set up his independent insurance agency.

Shreves started his career in the insurance industry at State Farm in 1995, when he was still in high school. By turns a customer service representative, property inspector and licensed office representative, he worked with State Farm through his graduation from the University of South Alabama, where he earned a degree in business administration.

Afterward, he spent 10 years as a team builder and trainer with Pilot Catastrophe Service before coming back to State Farm as an insurance agent in Mobile.

On July 1, he opened his own agency for business.

Shreves Insurance currently offers homeowners, auto, health and life insurance, as well as financial planning. Shreves hopes his new independent status will give him “the freedom to offer my customers new and better options.”

“I feel that with the added flexibility that an independent agency offers, I will be able to better tailor the products and choices to each client’s own unique needs,” he said. “I want to help everyone that walks through my door find exactly what they need to plan their future, protect their families and prevent unnecessary worry.”

He’s also hopeful that the new structure will allow him to be even more involved with the community – something he says could help promote his business.

“I can now focus on a grassroots approach to handling my business and my partnerships with the community,” he said.
