Allianz veteran Art Moossmann is leaving the management board and North America division of the business group’s global specialist corporate insurer.

Moossmann will step down as president and CEO of Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty (AGCS) North America effective July 1 and will be succeeded by Bill Scaldaferri.

Moossmann, who has been with Allianz for 17 years, will also leave the AGCS Board of Management effective December 31.

AGCS CEO Chris Fischer Hirs thanked Moossmann for his “notable contribution” to the business, calling him the “architect of what AGCS has built in North America.”

“He kindly agreed to lead the integration of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company into AGCS, which he has done with great effectiveness and speed – and now I fully respect his decision to move on,” Hirs said.

“I am delighted he will continue to be available to support us until the end of 2017 and will work closely with Bill to ensure a smooth handover,” he added.

Allianz Board of Management member Axel Theis also praised Moossmann, saying the company has strongly positioned itself in North America under his leadership.

“His leadership has been the engine that has driven our progress in this important P&C market,” Theis said.

Scaldaferri, Moossmaan’s successor in North America, will also continue as specialty lines chief underwriting officer with responsibility for the aviation, energy, entertainment and marine lines of business and for Allianz Risk Transfer.
