Amwins has earned AM Best's highest assessment score of PA-1 (Exceptional) for its Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprises (DUAEs) for the fourth consecutive year.
The recognition underscores Amwins' rating excellence in underwriting performance, governance, and organizational depth across its operations.
AM Best’s Performance Assessment (PA) for DUAEs, introduced in 2022, evaluates both quantitative and qualitative aspects of underwriting operations. Scores range from PA-1, the highest, to PA-5, the lowest. The assessment considered factors including underwriting capabilities, governance, internal controls, financial condition, organizational talent, and market partnerships.
Scott Purviance, CEO of Amwins, said the reaffirmation reflects the firm’s “strength and consistency” in its underwriting culture. He noted that entrepreneurial talent, strong carrier relationships, and the strategic use of data and technology underpin the firm’s ability to deliver efficient, tailored insurance solutions.
Chief underwriting officer Mark Bernacki added that the PA-1 rating recognizes the balance between analytical rigor and entrepreneurial drive within Amwins’ teams. He emphasized that the company’s approach to risk, combining diligence with innovation, continues to set it apart in the specialty insurance market.
Amwins’ specialty underwriting operations encompass $5.6 billion in premium volume across more than 130 niche programs, supported by over 315 specialized underwriters and partnerships with more than 100 markets. Its proprietary Amwins DNA platform provides data-driven insights to guide underwriting decisions and optimize performance, reinforcing the company’s capacity to deliver profitable, customized solutions for clients and carrier partners alike.
AM Best highlighted that Amwins’ diversified portfolio, collaborative market partnerships, and robust organizational capabilities contribute to sustained profitable growth across multiple geographies and lines of business. The assessment also acknowledged the firm’s strategic infrastructure and expertise in underwriting, actuarial analysis, and catastrophe modeling as critical to maintaining competitive advantage in the specialty insurance sector.
The rating also underscores the broader growth and complexity in the specialty insurance market.
As managing general agents (MGAs) and program administrators expand, and as carriers increasingly rely on technology-driven underwriting, firms with disciplined, data-enabled operations like Amwins are better positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
