Brooke Liu: The real career story, not the polished one

There’s a lot of advice in this industry about how to build a career. Very little of it is honest about the parts that don’t go according to plan.

Brooke Liu (pictured) is planning to change that. The MarshBerry leader is heading to InsuranceFest’s Next Gen Power Lab panel on the Santa Monica Pier this July - a session designed specifically for the professionals who are early enough in their careers to still be figuring out the shape of the path ahead.

“I’m incredibly excited to be participating on the Next Gen Power Lab panel on the Santa Monica Pier and to be part of a conversation centered on growth, learning, and real career experiences,” Liu said. “Every stage of a career comes with challenges and unexpected turns, and I’m excited to share a few of my own lessons while connecting with others who are shaping the future of the industry.”

The word “real” in there is doing a lot of work. Career panels in professional services often have a polish to them - a narrative arc that runs from early struggle to current success in a way that’s technically accurate but practically useless to anyone in the middle of the messy part. Liu is describing something different: the unexpected turns, the things she actually learned, the version of the journey that might actually help someone navigate their own.

MarshBerry sits at the crossroads of brokerage strategy, M&A, and perpetuation planning - the firm has seen the full arc of a career in insurance from every angle. That perspective, brought into a frank conversation on a pier with people who are early enough to still make different choices, is genuinely valuable.

The Next Gen Power Lab isn’t a session for the people who have already figured it out. It’s for the ones still in the process - which, if you’re being honest, includes most of the people who will be on that panel too.
