California’s Department of Motor Vehicles (CA DMV) has approved the crash avoidance training program Lifelong Driver as a mature driver improvement course.

This means that senior participants aged 55 or older who successfully complete the training program are entitled to discounts from their auto insurance companies.

Lifelong Driver is a program developed by ADEPT Driver – creator of the teenSMART teen driver safety program – to help senior motorists maintain or improve their driving skills.

“We applaud the CA DMV for including Lifelong Driver on their resource page for senior drivers,” commented ADEPT Driver CEO Dr. Richard Harkness. “Lifelong Driver is a course for those serious about improving their crash avoidance skills. With Lifelong Driver, you’ll notice an immediate improvement in the way you drive, so you can maintain your freedom, independence and quality of life. And now, you will also notice a discount on insurance if you complete the program.”

A release mentioned that Lifelong Driver is unique among the CA DMV’s other approved Mature Driver offerings “because it is science based and uses validated psychometric driving simulations to target and improve the five factors that cause over 95% of mature driver crashes: visual awareness, hazard detection, judging safe gaps, risk assessment, and making safe lane changes.”

Drivers who complete Lifelong Driver will receive a CA DMV-approved “Mature Driver Improvement Course Certificate” from ADEPT Driver.

“Lifelong Driver keeps mature drivers on the road longer and more safely,” Harkness added. “Now with the inclusion of Lifelong Driver on the CA DMV’s Mature Driver Improvement Course list, you could save money on insurance premiums too.”
