The California Assembly Insurance Committee approved April 6 Assembly Bill 2591, which allows policyholders the choice to opt-in and choose the electronic delivery of insurance documents.

AB 2591 was authored by Assemblyman Mathew Dababneh, D-Encino. An article on insurancejournal.com noted that the bill was created to uphold consumer protections in current legislation and is expected to “create a higher standard for sending policy cancelations via email.”

“Consumers increasingly prefer conducting their personal business on the web or through their email. AB 2591 gives consumers the option to be completely paperless,” remarked Association of California Insurance Companies vice president Armand Feliciano.

If AB 2591 is enacted, it would make California the 35th state that allows the electronic delivery of insurance policy documents, said Feliciano.
