Deemed “high risk” by its previous insurance carrier, Meigs, GA lost its insurance November 16, at 12 a.m.

The carrier pulled out after it paid settlements to resolve lawsuits raised by five former city employees. A good number of the lawsuits are related to Mayor Linda Harris, whom several staff members are at odds with.

"I love her, but she has a problem, a power problem," said Lizzy Battle, city council member.

Neither the mayor nor the council has named a new insurance carrier, as of this writing.

The absence of insurance could effectively halt both town hall and police acitivity.

"Without any insurance we can't function," said Gary Price, police chief of the city.

Price stated that he thinks the elected officials did not have a backup plan for circumstances like this.
