Former President Bill Clinton believes the Obama administration needs to find a way to let people keep their health plans, even if it means making changes to the Affordable Care Act.

In a Tuesday interview with the website Ozy.com, Clinton said the president’s promise that people could keep their health insurance is one he needs to keep.

“I personally believe, even if it takes a change to the law, the president should honor the commitment that the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got,” Clinton said.

Clinton’s comments come amidst increasing backlash against the ACA, as millions of Americans receive cancellation letters from their insurers, dropping plans that are not ACA-compliant. Obama had previously promised that people would not be forced to change their insurance under the new law.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the president agreed with Clinton’s statements, noting that the administration is considering a “range of options” to address the issue.

“The president has tasked his team with looking at a range of options, as he said, to make sure that nobody is put in a position where their plans have been canceled and they can’t afford a better plan, even though they’d like a better plan,” Carney told reporters.
