CNA has announced the appointment of industry veteran Joseph Merten to a newly created position in the organization to tap emerging technology and improve operations efficiency.

A PRNewswire report said that the firm created the vice president for technology and operations role to take advantage of the benefits of emerging technologies in its business processes.

“The impact of the cloud, big data, internet of things, distributed ledger technology, social and mobile channels are just some of the pieces of a technology evolution.

“Integrating new technologies and a user-friendly digital experience into our operations is a critical strategic action designed to move (the company) closer to the most effective business model for the future,” CNA chairman and chief executive Dino E. Robusto said in the report.

Merten will report directly to Robusto.

The new vice president is an industry veteran with more than three decades of experience in technology transformation roles. He held leadership roles in AXIS Capital, Grant Thornton and LECG prior to his current position.
