The US Department of the Treasury has announced the appointment of Marguerite Salazar, Colorado Commissioner of Insurance, to the Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance (FACI).
Joe Neguse, executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), said Salazar’s appointment is a well-deserved recognition for her.
“Having one of our own as part of the team making recommendations on insurance to the federal government gives Coloradans a seat at an important table,” he said.
Salazar is one of six state commissioners who have been appointed to the group and one of 21 members altogether.
The FACI is a group of representatives chosen from among academics, state regulators, and experts from the insurance and reinsurance industries. The committee provides advice and recommendations directly to the Federal Insurance Office (FIO). Members of the committee typically serve 3-year terms.
Salazar used to be the president and CEO of Valley-Wide Health Systems, a network that covered 22 counties in Southern Colorado. Afterward, she served as the regional director for the US Department of Health and Human Services. She was appointed as Colorado’s insurance commissioner on August 19, 2013. As commissioner, she also served as chief executive of the Division of Insurance.
She was named 2015 Chair of the Consumer Liaison Committee of the NAIC earlier this year.
