The man who went on a shooting spree over the weekend was identified as a broker working in the insurance industry.
Noah Harpham, 33, from Colorado Springs, was licensed to write auto and home insurance policies for Progressive and had been doing so for about one year.
He left three dead on Saturday night and was killed in a shootout with police.
A spokesman for Progressive, which is based in Ohio, told Insurance Business America: “We are aware of and deeply saddened by this horrific incident. We will continue to monitor the situation, assist where and as best we can, and will fully support the local authorities with their investigation. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those impacted by this tragedy.”
Other notable killers that have also been associated with the insurance industry in the past include: Robert O Marshall, who was convicted of killing his wife in 1984 as they journeyed home on the Garden State Parkway from Atlantic City. His story became well-known when author Joe McGuiness detailed it in his novel, Blind Faith. Marshall was also an insurance broker and spent the rest of his life in prison.
In 1999, insurance broker Ralph E Davis was executed, having become the first person convicted using DNA evidence in Missouri for the murder of his wife.
More recently, in 2014, an insurance broker from Texas, Tommy Dooley, shot his wife six times as she was on the phone to a 911 dispatcher.
