Crum & Forster (C&F) has announced the promotion of David Thomas (pictured above) to the position of senior vice president of surety claims.

Joining C&F in 2018 as the manager of the contract surety claims team, Thomas rose to become vice president of surety claims in 2022. In his new role, he assumes responsibility for leading the overall claims strategy and direction within the surety division, while also providing legal advice to the division's underwriting business units.

“Dave's philosophy and approach to claims management complements our underwriting,” said Matt Lubin, president of the surety division at C&F. “Dave has a deep understanding of surety claims and has built strong relationships with the underwriting teams across the division's portfolio. As we focus on continuing to develop and advance surety claims, he is in a great position to move the claims team forward and capitalize on our best in class claims handling.”

With more than two decades of experience in claims handling, Thomas has successfully managed both commercial and contract surety claims teams throughout his career. Additionally, he has held various positions overseeing general liability, property, and environmental claims.

“We have a team of exceptional people here with both the experience and customer-driven mindset to differentiate C&F's surety division from the rest of the industry in a meaningful and measurable way, and I'm honored to be leading the charge,” Thomas said.

Prior to joining C&F, Mr. Thomas served as a claims attorney at The Hartford for more than 17 years. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, as well as a bachelor of science in chemistry and environmental science from the same institution. Thomas is a licensed property and casualty adjuster in 17 states.

Earlier this year, Crum & Forster was recognized for diversity and inclusion at a conference in Washington, D.C. The company has also been recognized for cyber excellence.
