Hacked: Amazon’s game streaming site
Twitch, the game streaming site that Amazon acquired for almost a billion dollars last year, has been hacked. A company blog post warned that there had been "unauthorized access to some" user accounts and that some personal information may have been compromised. Twitch said that it had disconnected accounts from user’s Twitter and Facebook accounts and canceled passwords to help protect users. It said that users would need to choose new passwords on their next visit to the site and that they should also change passwords on any other sites for which they use the same password. Better off with gas; could electric cars actually harm the environment?
As the world makes a colossal combined effort to mitigate the effects of climate change hopes of billions of people are riding on the right choices being made. For that reason it’s always a concern when research emerges that seems to contradict what we thought was the right direction. A report from University of Toronto’s Chris Kennedy claims that electric cars generate more carbon than gasoline powered ones but it depends where they are. Citing the oil producing provinces of Canada the professor says that because they produce their electricity by burning coal gasoline is a greener option. In other parts of Canada though the electric motor would be the greener option as natural gas or hydroelectric power stations generate less carbon than coal-burning ones. Are you adequately protecting employees’ identities?
Employees are at increasing risk of identity theft according to a keynote speaker at a fraud summit in Atlanta this week. Johnny May is an identity theft expert and in a speech planned for last night he warns that businesses need to do more to protect their employees. He says that while in the past criminals have targeted consumers in cyber attacks but they are now likely to want to gain access to employee records, especially those with financial responsibilities. Criminals posing as genuine employees in the financial sector – an insurer perhaps – may have access to far greater sums of money and be able to misappropriate those funds more easily.
