Five Florida lawyers have been arrested for allegedly running an auto insurance scam for more than a year.

Adam Hurtic, 46, Steven Slootsky, 57, Alexander Kapetan, 45, Mark Spatz, 58, and Vincent Pravato, 48, have turned themselves in to the Broward County, Fla., sheriff’s office. Authorities said that the Fort Lauderdale attorneys exploited information they received about auto accident victims and received money when the victims met with doctors.

The lawyers allegedly made more than half a million dollars from the scheme, according to a report by the Palm Beach Post.

“Within a couple of hours, sometimes days, after the motor-vehicle accident, these people would receive a call and/or a knock at their door from a solicitor or someone representing the attorney,” a sheriff’s office detective told local news channel WSVN.

The attorneys have been reported to the state bar association, and all of the doctor’s offices involved in the scam have been closed down, the Post reported.
