A former Boise insurance agent has been sentenced for one count of insurance fraud, a feature on Southern Idaho news portal KMVT.com reported Mar. 16.

The agent, Mylinh N. Fetterman, was served a one-year fixed sentence with a five-year indeterminate by Fourth District Judge Steven Hippler. Following the sentence, she was immediately taken into custody.

Fetterman, 40, pleaded guilty on Jan. 22 to one count of insurance fraud.

She was ordered to pay $31,090 in recompense to her former employer, Primerica Insurance.

According to an official statement by investigators, Fetterman pocketed money from her clients’ bank accounts between 2010 and 2014. She then issued insurance policies under their names without their knowledge. Due to her fraud, she managed to receive commissions for policies her clients did not want, but unfairly paid for.

The Idaho Department of Insurance and Primerica Insurance investigated the case. As a result of its investigation, Primerica fired Fetterman and notified the Department of Insurance.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorneys General in the Insurance Crimes Unit, serving as Special Ada County Prosecutors.
