Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens announced Monday that in 2015, his office mediated thousands of claims disputes between Georgians and their insurance companies, resulting in more than $7 million in claim settlements favorable to the consumer.

“We are here to help,” Hudgens said in a news release. “I am proud of the work my staff is doing and I encourage Georgians to contact my office with their insurance problems.”

Last year, staff with the state insurance department helped 11,240 consumers and businesses retrieve approximately $7,034,418.06 from insurance companies in settlement payments.

Auto liability was the coverage that produced the most complaint activity, followed by those related to individual and group health insurance, life insurance and homeowner coverages.

Consumers with complaints or questions about their insurance claim or policy provisions are urged to contact the state department at www.oci.ga.gov.
