The Hilb Group, an insurance broker covering the southeast region, has acquired Raley, Watts and O’Neill (RWO), an independent agency based in California, Maryland, for an undisclosed amount.
The transaction, effective March 1, is seen to strengthen Hilb’s mid-Atlantic arm since RWO has three offices in Maryland and one in South Carolina.
RWO offers clients with a broad range of general insurance products, services and various specialty programs for health care facilities, social services providers, federal contractors, fire and EMS organizations and marinas.

RWO president Gordon O’Neill and company CEO Rick Tepel will continue to lead their 21 employees under the business group’s existing name.
“As part of The Hilb Group, our team will have access to resources that will enhance those long-term relationships through training and connection to a national network,” Tepel said.
O’Neill expressed optimism over the transaction, noting that the two companies share humble beginnings.
